At a young age, the founders of Nimbl learned the seemingly unexpected role that accounting plays in creating successful organizations, families, and communities. Dave Olsen and Shane Rowley both grew up in small business families, though each has his own unique story. Both of their childhoods were characterized by lessons learned while working alongside their fathers. The Position

As a SMB CFO & Team Lead you will be the face of Nimbl to your team and a few clients (1 - 2). That means we are looking for someone who loves small business accounting and finance as well as team and people operations. While strategic accounting and finance will be part of your daily routine, most of your time will be spent helping your team to be successful in both their individual and team roles and responsibilities, and since Nimbl has been a remote first company since we started, this means you’ll get to do all of this from the comfort of your own home or wherever you choose to work.

As a SMB CFO + Team Lead, you will have two distinct roles and responsibilities:

Team Leader:

  • Lead a diversely skilled team of accountants, financial analysts, and bookkeepers in their fulfillment of Nimbl’s monthly accounting services
  • Coach both team and individuals to performance (including clearly and compassionately addressing lack of performance)
  • Hiring, onboarding, and training new & existing team members with support from the People Operations team
  • Create and fulfill on a strategic vision that aligns with Nimbl’s priorities and performance metrics (both team and individual)

Small Business CFO:

  • Serve as the leader in a select amount of client engagements (1 - 2 Clients)
  • Identify the best service team and individuals to facilitate the client engagement
  • Analyze financial data in order to produce and conduct financial analysis such as:
    • Cashflow management and projections
    • Financial Forecasts
    • Company Budgets
  • Facilitates client conversations around Nimbl’s scope, alignment, and service agreements.
  • Build and manage client processes, in collaboration with the Nimbl servicing team, to maximize both margin and client delight
  • Identify and clearly communicate cost-saving opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
  • Identify financial risks and assist the client’s internal management team in developing strategies to mitigate them.
  • Communicate financial performance and strategy and prepare and present financial reports and analyses for various audiences.

Position Employment Status:

This is a Full-Time position and requires daily availability.

Our Requirements (In Rough Order of Priority)

  • An innate desire to serve people, especially business owners
  • An obsession with meeting deadlines and keeping agreements
  • A minimum of 3 years experience leading teams and people
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in small business accounting and strategic finance
  • A wizard with computers, spreadsheets (especially Google Sheets), and accounting software
  • Coaching and mentoring experience (like explaining accounting to non-accountants)
  • Ability to self-teach and develop proficiency with a variety of technology and software
  • Comfortable delegating and overseeing routine work by digging into business processes, troubleshooting a problem, or giving training
  • Experience with construction and non-profits as a bonus
  • Experience with business income tax returns (bonus, but not required)

Compensation

Starting at $85,000-$100,000/year depending on experience. Pay increases will be directly tied to quality and efficiency, including the ability to create systems and lead team members.
